VBS OCEAN COMMOTION will be June 20-24 from 9-12:00 for children completing preschool 3 through grade 5 in May 2016. Get ready for a boatload of excitement at Ocean Commotion! SUNDAY SCHOOL ACTIVITY LEADERS are needed for the summer quarter for youth preschool-5th grade. The theme is Basic Elements – Science Inspired/Christian Focused. If you are interested or have any questions check out the display in the narthex or contact Kayla KuehnertHOLY LAND TRIP MEETING: Anyone interested in traveling to the Holy Land with Pastor in January/February, 2017, plan to attend an information meeting following the late service on Sunday.

ECC SPRING PROGRAM & GRADUATION is Friday, May 27, at 9:30. The congregation is invited to attend and enjoy the reception following.

 
CAMP ACCELERATE will also be held again this year at CTR during the week of July 25. This is for youth entering K in the fall and entering 7th grade in the fall. Sign up today with DCE Suzanne. The cost of the week-long camp is a non-refundable fee of $35.
For Accelerate Day Camp we need: Adults or High School aged youth to assist with activities. Programming will be from 8:30-3PM on Monday-Thursday and until 12:30 PM on Friday. Volunteers will serve as “Assistant Counselors” helping with the groups, set up and clean up snacks and crafts, assist with set up of activities for the Camp Lutherhoma Staff. Please register for these positions in person or via email with DCE Suzanne.
  We will also need host homes to house the Lutherhoma staff for that week.
Ideally, homes that could house 2 or more staff Sunday-Friday (5 nights). We will also be asking for donations or hosts to feed the staff lunch (on site at CTR) and dinner each day. Please speak with DCE Suzanne for more info on housing and meals for the Camp staff.
 

LUTHERANISM 101 will be offered by Pastor on June 8-15-22 & 29 at 6:00 pm for anyone wishing a refresher course or someone who is interested in joining CTR. If you are interested or know someone who might be, please contact Pastor or the church office.
 
SOAP DONATIONS are needed for LWR (4 oz deodorant bars). Donations can be brought to the display in the narthex during the month of May.

CTR-U will be suspending classes and activities until September 7. If you’d like to see a particular Bible study or class or would like to start up a group on your own, please contact DCE Suzanne.

Rebates are offered to individual campers who are participating (attending church, Bible study &/or confirmation, youth activities, etc.) members of CTR for one camp session per person per the 2016 summer season. Please fill out one form per camper. Remember to send your registration to Camp Lutherhoma as soon as possible. When you receive your registration confirmation attach a copy to the rebate form and return it to Christ the Redeemer in the Lay Ministry of Youth drawer in the Volunteer Office. The amount of the rebate will depend on how many youth apply by June 1 but will not exceed 50% of your costs and will be distributed on a first come, first served basis. Forms submitted after June 1 will be considered with any funds that remain. Please check the April or May edition of the CTR Cornerstone newsletter for a copy of the rebate form. SOUTH TULSA COMMUNITY HOUSE:

We are in great need of just about everything “canned,” as well as other proteins such as dried beans, peanut butter, meat based soups. We also need clean and labels removed prescription bottles which we use to distribute shampoo, body wash/soap and the like. They request that you not donate any Ramon noodles.

COLLECTION CENTER:

Please remember to collect various ink cartridges and electronic equipment for the LWML; food and household supplies for South Tulsa Community House; various labels for ECC (check out the collection center for a list); various coupons for the military; eye glasses for MOST Ministries. All these items can be dropped off at the collection center at the south entrance.

Volunteers Needed VBS and Accelerate Day Camp

For VBS we need:
Group Leaders for Pre-K and 1st/2nd grade groups, Craft Leaders and Assistants, Science Leaders and Assistants, Games Leaders. Leaders for any activity must be age 17 or older. Assistants/Helpers must have completed 6th
grade- age adult. Ideally, all volunteers will be here from 8:40-12:30 each day M-F, however we are able to work with you if you can only be here part of the week. Please register for these positions online via the CTR registration website.

For Accelerate Day Camp we need:

The speaker will be Jerry Isaacs, a decorated, retired, Tulsa police officer and currently the Security Director at Oral Roberts University. A sign up is available. Join us for fun and fellowship.

DR. PAUL MAIER VISITS CTR on April 22-24. There will be a presentation on Islam & Christianity on April 22 at 7 pm with a reception following; one on Archaeology & the Bible on April 23 at 9:00. Admission is free and childcare is provided. Dr. Maier will also teach a Bible study in the sanctuary on Sunday, April 24.

CONFIRMATION SUNDAY is April 24 at the late service. Parish Life will serve a light brunch open to the congregation following the early service in honor of the confirmands. The confirmands are Blake Apfelbacher, Max Baumann, Elise Burmeister, James Carson, Caroline King, Daniel Fitzgerald, Emma Lemons, Drew Mabrey, Ainsley McFarlin, Megan and Michael Merrill, Molly Wilkening, Lanie Witt. There will be no adult class in the fellowship hall. You are invited to join Dr. Maier’s class in the sanctuary.

SPRING CLOTHING DRIVE for Harvest House takes place in April. Clean out your closets and bring your gently used clothing or small household items (or brand new items) to church for the clients of Harvest House. This outreach ministry to our local community is right down the street and items donated by members of CTR are always well-received and greatly appreciated!

GLENPOOL SPRING MARKET sponsored by King of Kings will be April 23 from 10-4 pm at the Glenpool Conference Center. A suggested door donation of $1 will benefit Camp Lutherhoma. Eric the Balloonman will be there from 10:30-12:30 to entertain the kids.

CALL DAY: Erik Christensen, our seminary student, will be receiving his Call on April 26 from Concordia Seminary, St. Louis. The Call service begins at 7 pm and the list of assignments will be available on their website shortly after the service. Please keep him and all the graduates in your prayers.

ECC ANNUAL AUCTION will be April 30th at the Stokely Center from 6-10 pm. We would love to have your support by attending or donating items or a bottle of your favorite wine for our wine pull. Tickets are $30 for individual/$50 couple. Dinner, music, and live auction will entertain you all night! You can purchase tickets at ECC office or online at eccauction.eventzilla.net. Come support the ECC!

HABITAT FOR HUMANITY: St. Bernard’s will start building for Habitat on April 23. They are in need of volunteers for April 26-29 and May 3-6 from 8:30-4:00. SUNDAY SCHOOL OFFERING for the new quarter will be going to Oaks Indian Mission a Lutheran ministry that serves children from ages 4-18 from a multitude of tribal backgrounds.

SUNDAY SCHOOL OFFERING for the new quarter will be going to Oaks Indian Mission a Lutheran ministry that serves children from ages 4-18 from a multitude of tribal backgrounds.

SPRING CLOTHING DRIVE for Harvest House takes place in April. Clean out your closets and bring your gently used clothing or small household items (or brand new items) to church for the clients of Harvest House.  This outreach ministry to our local community is right down the street and items donated by members of CTR are always well-received and greatly appreciated!

INSTALLATION: You are invited to the installation of Rev. Blaise Marin as pastor of Good Shepherd on Sunday, April 17, at 4:30.

LWML OKLAHOMA DISTRICT CONVENTION is in Tulsa April 15-16. Their worship and communion service will be held here at CTR on Friday night (April 15) at 7:00 p.m. All are invited to attend.

DR. PAUL MAIER VISITS CTR on April 22-24. There will be a presentation on Islam & Christianity on April 22 at 7 pm; one on Archaeology & the Bible on April 23 at 9:00. Admission is free and childcare is provided. Dr. Maier will also teach a Bible study in the sanctuary on Sunday, April 24.

CONFIRMATION SUNDAY is April 24 at the late service. Parish Life will serve a light brunch open to the congregation following the early service. There will be no adult class in the fellowship hall. You are invited to join Dr. Maier’s class in the sanctuary.

GLENPOOL SPRING MARKET sponsored by King of Kings will be April 23 from 10-4 pm at the Glenpool Conference Center. A suggested door donation of $1 will benefit Camp Lutherhoma. Eric the Balloonman will be there from 10:30-12:30 to entertain the kids.

ECC ANNUAL AUCTION will be April 30th at the Stokely Center from 6-10 pm. We would love to have your support by attending or donating items or a bottle of your favorite wine for our wine pull. Tickets are $30 for individual/$50 couple. Dinner, music, and live auction will entertain you all night! You can purchase tickets at ECC office or online at eccauction.eventzilla.net. Come support the ECC!

CAMP ACCELERATE will also be held again this year at CTR during the week of July 25. This is for youth entering K in the fall and entering 7th grade in the fall. Sign up today with DCE Suzanne. The cost of the week-long camp is a non-refundable fee of $35.

VBS OCEAN COMMOTION

will be June 20-24 from 9-12:00 for children completing preschool 3 through grade 5 in May 2016. Get ready for a boatload of excitement at Ocean Commotion!
SOUTH TULSA COMMUNITY HOUSE:
We are in great need of just about everything “canned,” as well as other proteins such as dried beans, peanut butter, meat based soups. We also need clean and labels removed prescription bottles which we use to distribute shampoo, body wash/soap and the like. They request that you not donate any Ramon noodles.

SPECIAL GUEST ON SUNDAY will be Josh Eicholtz, a missionary pilot in Papua New Guinea with Wycliffe Bible Translators. He will be our speaker during the Sunday school hour and give a presentation during both services. A door offering will be taken to support his work.

Please remember to collect various ink cartridges and electronic equipment for the LWML; food and household supplies for South Tulsa Community House; various labels for ECC (check out the collection center for a list); various coupons for the military; eye glasses for MOST Ministries. All these items can be dropped off at the collection center at the south entrance.

Do you have Passion?

We are in the midst of the Passion of our Lord Jesus Christ. Do you have passion? I have heard passion defined as “unrestrained effort”. That is the truth when it comes to the passion of Jesus. He would be unrestrained from attaining his goal of saving you from your sins, and going to the cross to die for them. Unrestrained, unrelenting and untiring are all adjectives used to describe a person of passion.
The French Foreign Legion had a saying, “If I fall, push me. If I stumble, pick me up. If I retreat, shoot me.” Now that is extreme passion, don’t you think? Passion does, passion tries, passion fires and then aims, passion is the engine that drives success. What is your passion? Do you have one? You should probably have three things about which you are passionate. How often do we find people with no passion at all? Listen to the Apostle Paul and see if he has passion. Philippians 3:12-14 “Not that I have already obtained this or am already perfect, but I press on to make it my own, because Christ has made me his own. Brothers, I do not consider that I have made it my own. But one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Jesus Christ.”
What Paul is saying is a risky endeavor, here on earth. If we measure ourselves based on success or failure, well we are going to fall short every time, I mean, we are sinful. But, if success is passion and the desire to remain faithful to our calling, well then, we are willing to risk it all. And that is what passion is at the end of the day. Passion is the desire to risk it all for the kingdom of God. One of my favorite bands ever is the Irish rock group, U2. They had just come off a hugely successful album called the Joshua Tree, in the late 80s. The album was such a huge hit that they, as a band, questioned their ability to even try to top it. They were at a crossroads, professionally, and as artists. Bono, the lead singer of the group spoke of that moment. “In order to move from one expression of the band to another, we had to risk it all, and in between there was nothing.” Wow, what a scary place to be. The safe bet was just to put out a mediocre album. People would have understood. The passion of the band would not allow it. During the recording of the song “Mysterious Ways”, the Edge (U2’s guitarist) tried out a bridge with the chord progression Am, D5, F, G. Everyone in the room was taken back by the way that chord progression grabbed them. If you strum those four chords on a guitar, you will recognize the song “One”, which became their biggest hit ever. Passion drove them to keep trying and not to settle.
Jesus Christ does not settle. His passion drove him to the cross. There he saved us from our sins. If we have faith, then we have passion. If we have passion then we remain faithful and faithfulness is the desire to move from one expression of ourselves to another. As we make this move, we realize that it is fraught with danger, because we could fail at any point. But, true failure is to refuse to have passion, to refuse to try, to refuse to pursue failure. Ahh, there’s the rub. Success only comes when we step out in faith, which could be seen as a pursuit of failure. Then and only then do we realize true success, remaining faithful.
