FROM THE ELDERS:  Joshua Brakhage has begun his studies for the pastoral ministry this Fall at Concordia Seminary in St Louis, Missouri.  The Elders will be providing financial support to Joshua throughout the time of his studies to help defray the cost of his tuition, books and other expenses.  The Outreach Ministry will also be providing “care packages” for Joshua and Suzy on a regular basis to help with things around the house and other needs.  If you would like to provide financial support, please make a contribution to “Seminary Student Support” and place it in the offering or in the Elders drawer in the Volunteer Office.  Please do not make specific reference to the Brakhage family for tax reasons.  This money will be placed in a designated fund and sent to the Seminary to support Joshua.  If you want to provide non-financial support for Joshua and Suzy, please contact Diane Morlock and the Outreach Ministry for ways that you may be able to help.

Several years ago, the Board of Directors and the Elders established a designated fund to assist Christ the Redeemer’s divinely-called church workers in paying off any of their existing student loans.  The agreements that our congregation made with those called professionals is that, as long as they continued to serve our congregation and as long as there was money available in the fund, we would assist them by making payments on their behalf toward the balance owed on their student loans that arose from the time that they were receiving their education for the positions that they now hold.  This program has truly been a blessing to those who have served us so well.  We have now come to the point that the designated fund balance is running low and needs to be replenished.  On behalf of the Ministry of Elders, I ask that you prayerfully consider making a donation to this fund before the end of this year.  Any amount that you are moved to contribute will be most graciously appreciated. — John Meinders, Elder Chairman

ADVENT SERVICES  will begin November 30 at 7:00 with the Hanging of the Greens Service, Carols and Lessons on December 7 and the Children’s Christmas Program on December 14. Meals will be at 6:00. CTR-U will continue with the 5:30-6:30 activities.

STILL NEED SOME VOLUNTEERS FOR RECIPE ROUNDUP which is once a month at CTR-U and begins September 21 from 5:30-6:00. It will be a recipe tasting group. The theme for September is Mexican. Three volunteers will be needed to prepare one Mexican main course, side dish and dessert recipe. You will only be asked to prepare enough for everyone to have a 2-3 bite taste – not a whole serving. Recipes will be provided for those attending. This is your chance to try that new Pinterest recipe you’ve always wanted to try!! Please contact Connie Phillips at the church office or connie.phillips@ctrtulsa.org  for questions or if you’d like to volunteer.

PAINTING CLASS will be offered on September 14 during CTR-U from 5:30-6:30 in the fellowship hall. Check out the display in the narthex for details. Cost of the class is $5.00 to be collected that evening. The class is open to adults and those 6th grade students (post-confirmation) and older. Sign up today!

THE STORY BIBLE STUDY will begin September 11 and go through April. This Sunday school program is for adult, youth, and children each Sunday during this time. Wired Word and Life By His Word will continue to have their classes so adults can choose which class they would like to attend. If you are interested in taking part in The Story, you must order the books for your family no later than August 21. All the books are $5.00 for those participating in the classes. If you order after the program begins, adult, teen and kids versions will be $10 each. The little ones and children’s books will be $15 each.  Even though the sale on these items has ended, the church is continuing to subsidize the final cost of these books. If you would like to order additional copies for someone not attending the classes, please contact DCE Suzanne. IF YOUR ORDER HAS ARRIVED, IT CAN BE FOUND IN THE NARTHEX WITH YOUR NAME ON IT.

WORLD RELIEF SCHOOL KITS:  Only one week left to gather up donations for school kits for World Relief. There are cards at the display in the narthex with the items needed. You can do complete kits or individual items. If you have questions, please contact Lynne Kollock.

LWML will meet on August 23 for a LWR workday at 9:30.

ACOLYTE SCHEDULE is available at the south entrance. Acolytes are asked to sign up for 2-3 Sundays. The current schedule ends September 4 so please sign up as soon as possible.

OK/KS DISTRICT HIGH SCHOOL YOUTH GATHERING:  November 18-20. Registration opens on August 15. Schedules and registration information has been sent out. If you have questions, contact DCE Suzanne.

OK DISTRICT JR HIGH YOUTH GATHERING:  September 30-October 2 at Camp Lutherahoma. Registration forms must be turned in ASAP to reserve spots in the retreat cabins. If you have questions, contact DCE Suzanne.

MUSIC STAFF UPDATE: Continuing this fall, children’s chime choir and adult handbells will be directed by current CTR choir director, Craig Amendt.  Children’s chime choir practices will begin at their usual time on Wednesday nights with the start of CTR-U on September 7th.  We are pleased that Craig has accepted these new responsibilities seamlessly from our music director, Norma Muller, as she steps back from some of her duties in preparation for retirement, and we look forward to continuing to share in the gifts of our CTR musicians young and old.

COLLEGE STUDENTS: Students are encouraged to take a moment to go to www.lcms.org/lcmsu/campuslink and fill in your contact information. The site will link you to the campus ministry near your college. Parents can also log in the information for their child. If you are attending OU, you can contact Vicar Eric Bednash (tlcnormanvicar@gmail.com or 405-429-9327) for upcoming events for the new fall semester which begin August 19.

SOUTH TULSA COMMUNITY HOUSE: We are in great need of just about everything “canned,” as well as other proteins such as dried beans, peanut butter, meat based soups. We also need clean and labels removed prescription bottles which we use to distribute shampoo, body wash/soap and the like. They request that you not donate any Ramon noodles.

COLLECTION CENTER: Please remember to collect various ink cartridges and electronic equipment for the LWML; food and household supplies for South Tulsa Community House; various labels for ECC (check out the collection center for a list); various coupons for the military; eye glasses for MOST Ministries. All these items can be dropped off at the collection center at the south entrance.
